Deborah Gerrish BDS ( Wales) with Commendation – GDC 79525
After graduating from Cardiff Dental School in 2001, I spent two years as senior house officer undertaking a number of roles at Cardiff Dental Hospital. I then continued to work at the hospital part time and part time in general practice. In doing so, I gained more experience in oral surgery restorative dentistry, particularly in catering for the dental needs of special care patients, which included the sedation of phobic patients. During my time in the hospital, I undertook further post graduate examinations to become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and further clinical training in sedation and dental implants. With this experience, I feel confident in providing excellent general dentistry to the public. Here, at Newport Dental Care, we welcome anxious and phobic patients and enjoy providing appropriate quality care in a general practice setting.
Most of my spare time is spent taking my children between their various activities in the area, but when I get the chance I enjoy taking part in any sports I can and have enjoyed in training for both the New York and London Marathons.
Nia Morgan BDS (Wales) GDC 80784
I qualified in 2002 from Cardiff Dental School and completed a year long vocational training in Oxford. Feeling homesick I returned immediately to Wales and worked in a practice in Cardiff for a year and a half. At this point I felt I needed to hone my skills as a dentist and returned to the Heath Dental Hospital. I started out as a staff grade in the Emergency Department. After this I embarked on a series of training posts gaining a wealth of post graduate knowledge which has set me in good stead as a general practitioner. I worked with consultants to improve my knowledge in the fields of: special needs dentistry; prosthetics (false teeth); complex restorative dentistry; oral medicine, oral pathology, oral surgery, maxillofacial surgery and intravenous sedation.
Following this I returned to general practice with more experience, better able to treat the general public. My aim as a dentist is to make treatment as stress free as possible and welcome anxious patients. I love working at Newport Dental Care as we have a great team and provide a friendly and efficient service.
Paola Marino BDS ( Colombia) 2001 PhD GDC 114903
I qualified in Colombia in 2001 where I worked as in general dental practice for 2 years. Life brought to the UK and in 2007 I completed the International Qualifying exams required to be able to practice dentistry in the UK. I then worked at the University Dental Hospital in Cardiff where in the maxillofacial surgery department for a year, this experience allowed me to improve my surgical skills like difficult teeth extractions, during this time I became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. I continued working at the dental hospital as an honorary junior doctor mainly in the Restorative Dentistry department where I enhanced my skills at making dentures, crowns and bridges and root canal treatments, at the same time I completed a part time PhD where I studied the relationship between dental plaque and pneumonia in critically ill patients.
I currently work part time as a Specialty Dentist in the Restorative Dentistry department in Morriston Hospital where I treat patients with difficult root canal treatments, tooth wear and dental problems after head and neck cancer treatments.
I joined Newport Dental Care in 2015 and have loved working here, providing a variety of dental treatments that include cosmetic dentistry like bleaching and bridges.
In my spare time I enjoy nature walks, baking and cake decorating with my family.
Sophia Gioti DMD (Bucharest 1998) GDC 105192
I have graduated from “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Dentistry in Bucharest in 1998.
Originally from Greece, I have returned back to Athens where I have worked alongside a Specialist Paediatric Dentist before starting and running my own Private General Dental Practice.
In 2007 driven by my desire to work in the UK I decided to move to Cardiff.
I enjoy all aspects of Dentistry and the professional experience gained working as an NHS Dentist led me to settle in Cardiff and start a family. Since 2013 I am also working as a Community Dentist with the Aneuryn Bevan University Health Board as I always had an interest working with children and vulnerable adults and mostly the anxious dental patient.
I joined Newport Dental Care in 2014 and now share my working days between the General Practice and the Community Dental Services.
I believe in following a holistic approach when treating patients, doing so in a gentle and caring manner.
In any spare time I try to spend as much time as I can with my young son, enjoying bike rides together and visiting the beautiful parks around the area.
